I read the NYT article on Young and Homeless in the US and have read your blog. I dont know if this will help but I posted a link of both on the Our Time FB wall. You never know. I am a member of the Locust Generation, aka, The Boomers.
I despise my generation for devouring every resource in their path in the name of commercialism and power (i.e., branding power, power ties, power walks, power career, power car, home, etc, ad nauseam).
I despise my generation for squandering opportunity that had been left to them based on the sacrifice of previous generations in almost every area of human endeavor.
I despise my generation for 40 years of creating epoch and colossal failures in almost every area of human and public policy.
I despise my generation for eating their young, leaving virtually nothing to you, their children, or your children, their grandchildren.
I despise my generation for their “back to the earth movement” in the 1960′s/70′s when they were your age, only to renounce it, embrace greed, flip houses, build suburbs to nowhere, destroying millions of acres of free space in the process.
I despise my generation for leaving you polluted water to drink, miles of tacky tract houses instead of open countryside or at least human-friendly development (as has been done in other countries).
I despise my generation for tolerating the escalating sexualization of children in media.
I despise my generation for feeding you poisonous food (via Big Agra).
I despise my generation for over medicating you (via Big Pharma).
I despise my generation for tolerating the consolidation of media from 47 outlets to just 6 now creating a de facto Ministry of Propaganda owned and controlled by the rich.
I despise my generation for tolerating the unprecedented erosion of your civil liberties (via the military/security complex).
I despise my generation for waging an all out suppression war at the national level on the only protest outlet your generation had to make your voices heard (Occupy Wall Street).
Mostly, I despise my generation for becoming obese, lazy, selfish, greedy, vain, and ignorant.
The only thing I know to do is to quit my useless though lucrative zombie management job and go work with what is thought to be the second largest concentration of homeless youth in the country (Hollywood, CA). I can’t sit in one more fucking meeting with these fat asses and pretend that their games to keep their jobs and unwarranted concentration of financial rewards matters. This generation must find a collective voice. The current system the way it is rigged will never serve them. The current system is only interested in preserving the status quo. And the status quo isn’t interested in young people.
When did it become okay to screw young people over?
Egad, how could I forget:
I despise my generation for turning this country into a banana republic with a mock two party political system disguising a corporatocracy.
I despise my generation for allowing the creation of the financial/insurance/real estate cartel which funneled whatever meager financial opportunity you had to the feeding trough of the very rich.
I despise my generation for thinking it was okay to create an entertainment cartel (movies, music, television, games, any Apple product, Facebook, Twitter, et al) whose purpose was to make you unquestioning, docile, and compliant.
I despise my generation for choosing a “leader” who used deception and lies to promise you hope and change only to abandon you.
Again, when did it become okay to screw over your children?
